What to do if a pandemic occurred in our area? The Monroe County
Health Department is working with schools, area hospitals, physicians,
local business, and other private and public partners to develop a
response plan.
Pandemic flu is a global outbreak caused by a new
strain of flu virus, such as the avian or bird flu. While there is no
pandemic flu in the world today, there have been three pandemics in the
last 90 years.
The A.D. Oliver Middle School is designated as one
of the Point of Dispensing (POD) sites in Monroe County. In the event of
a public health emergency, the goal is to administer vaccine and/or
dispense medication to the entire population of Monroe County within as
little as 48 hours.
