Last month we shared safe digital behavior resources following reports of an online predator targeting students in neighboring counties. While we are still not aware of any incidents pertaining to students in Brockport Central School District, reports of a similar situation have surfaced in Monroe County so we want to use this as a reminder to speak with your children about safe online behavior.

Common Sense Media is a valuable resource that provides education to promote safe technology and media use for children. Here are some links from Common Sense Media and other trusted sources containing tips and advice regarding how to talk to your children about safe and responsible social media use:

One of our district goals is to educate students about responsible use of the internet and online programs. We continue to promote digital citizenship so our students may benefit from the integration of technology into curriculum to deepen student engagement and improve student achievement. With your partnership, we can help our students learn, work and navigate life skills in a digital world while remaining safe.

If you have questions about how to speak with your children surrounding safe online behavior, please contact your child's school counselor. If you believe your child has been targeted by an online predator, please contact the police.
