Brockport CSD Capital Improvement Project Vote Results

On behalf of our District, I extend our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support in approving our 2024 Capital Improvement Project with 477 votes in favor and 278 opposed. This vote of confidence reflects our community’s commitment to the success and well-being of our students, staff, and community.

This project represents a significant step forward for our District, ensuring that our facilities meet the needs of current and future generations. Whether it’s providing safer, more modern learning environments or expanding resources that enhance educational opportunities, these improvements would not be possible without your steadfast commitment.

We understand that supporting such initiatives requires trust and a shared vision for the future. Please know that we take this responsibility seriously. We are committed to implementing this project with transparency, efficiency, and the utmost care, always keeping the best interests of our students, staff, families, and our community at heart. We also understand the apprehensions of those who voiced their concerns and will include those considerations in future budget and capital improvement project planning.

2024 Capital Improvement Project

“Together for Tomorrow: Building Success for Students, Staff & Our Community”

Overview

Since last April, we have been working closely with a dedicated volunteer committee comprised of over 30 community members, parents, and staff, to gather valuable community input on future capital projects for our District. This committee generated and evaluated several outstanding visioning ideas while focusing on both essential maintenance needs and energy efficiency. Among the required upgrades such as boiler replacements, parking lot improvements, HVAC improvements, and electrical updates, the proposed Capital Improvement Project also includes two key projects as top priorities: the renovation of the Barclay School kitchen and the upgrade of our District’s pool.

The kitchen at Barclay is still in its original layout and is no longer able to support the growing number of students being served daily. This is particularly problematic during breakfast hours, as it negatively impacts instructional time. The goal in this area is to create a kitchen that has two serving lines and the prep space to properly support them.

In addition to serving the community and our athletics program, our District pool, located at the high school, is utilized for swim instruction for students in grades 1 through 12. At over 54 years old, the pool is approaching the end of its operational lifespan. Although we have been able to repair leaks in the past, ongoing maintenance is becoming increasingly impractical and unsustainable.

Additionally, the replacement of our pool allows for relocating our wrestling room to the first floor while preserving space for performing arts storage and custodial storage. It also allows the creation of team rooms at our high school. Furthermore, the new pool design enhances accessibility and supports our plan to increase community use opportunities.

Detailed information will be sent to households and posted on our District website in November. Additionally, our website will feature an informational video. We will also host a series of informational sessions throughout the community for interested groups. These sessions will culminate in a public meeting on December 2, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the Hill School Cafetorium. The community vote for this project is scheduled from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. at our Technology and Training Center on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
