Urban Surban Principal's Award 2023

    For over four decades, the Urban League of Rochester Black Scholars™ program has provided academic recognition, college readiness assistance, and scholarship incentives to students who achieve and maintain a "B" or better average throughout high school.

  • Students in the Mid-West may participate in the MONROE delegation based on the following criteria:

    • Currently in l l th - 12th grade
    • Demonstrate leadership skills
    • Involved in the community
    • Interest in government policy making
    • Commitment to participate in:
      • Training sessions (attendance and participation is mandatory)

    AND

      • The weekend in Albany for the Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute
    • Proficiency in communication skills in English and/or Spanish
    • Parent / Guardian interest, support, and consent
    • Final decisions may be based on follow-up interviews.

    Great care should be taken by district personnel to select students who have demonstrated academic and social maturity.

    During training, ten students will be selected to participate in the MONROE Delegation held in Albany based on the following criteria:

    • Currently in l l th and 12th grade
    • Completed Application by the due date.

    o Application packets must include:

    l. Student Application

    1. Participation Form
    2. High school transcript
    3. Authorization Medical Form
    4. Student Contract
    5. Signed Parental Consent Form
    6. Signed Photo, Videos & Essays Release Form
    7. Two (2) letters of recommendation (l from school, l from community)
    8. A meaningful and responsive essay
